Multicoloured Tapestry: Exploring Singapore’s Lesser Known Cultures

Session 1: Dress Your Puppet

Children will get to decorate their puppets using traditional cultural designs like batik. They will then write a character profile and describe their puppet’s cultural outfit in detail.

Session2: Build a Cultural Diorama

Using recycled materials, children get a chance to create a “cultural home” for their puppet, including different aspects of their chosen culture using various craft materials. In doing so, children will be applying their learning about the culture. They will also be delivering an oral presentation about their dioramas at the end of the session and children will get to take home their dioramas.

Session 3: Puppet Show

In this final session, children will be working together with their peers to put up a puppet show. They will need to come up with a creative storyline to showcase the different cultures. They will also be encouraged to showcase the cultural music and languages of the chosen cultures. The puppet show will be recorded and sent to parents.
