Have you ever felt frustrated at the fact that your special star just can’t grasp a certain difficult word or phrase? Communicating with our kids is one of the most pleasurable and rewarding parts of parenting. As parents, we’ve all been there – pulling our hair out when we’ve tried every single method to retain their understanding.

At Artistic Strategies Academy, we recognize that most children might experience difficulty with the most common, high-frequency English words. Hence, we started researching on just how to ensure proper language acquisition within our kids. Well, we eventually realise that the problem has a relatively easy fix! It turns out, that the most basic English words may be mastered by our kids using creative movements.

Still not following? Don’t worry, as we will break down the benefits of learning while moving!

Imagine being stuck in a chair for 45 minutes – there is not a single doubt that you will begin to drift off and start to lose focus on what is happening in class. That was the observation we had when discussing about traditional classroom environments, our young ones just won’t pay as much attention when they’re forced to stay seated! This will cause the students to not fully learn or understand what they are being taught. Contrary to that, research shows that getting up and actually moving allows for their blood to start pumping, leading to an increase in awareness levels.

Upon this discovery, we sought to create a much better learning environment for our students to stay awake and aware! Well… what if, instead of getting the kids to look at a vocabulary book, we get them to form the words using their bodies!

For instance, kinesthetic (movement) exercises allow students to spell out words with their bodies! After selecting a word, they take turns to make the shape of each letter with their bodies, either for their friends to take a guess or, for them to have a higher word retention rate! By giving our kids the opportunity to be active, they are able to learn and absorb information better!

End your frustration by helping your child learn vocabulary through kinesthetic vocabulary strategies!
